How do you pack assorted super pails?
OK I want to make some pails of food that don't contain just one kind of food so I am not stuck eating 50 pounds of the same type of pasta or beans. What is the best way to do this? They have smaller mylar bags that can be packed separately and put into a bucket, but i'm not sure if they will fit properly to fill the space efficiently, plus it will make sealing them with O2 absorbers a lot of work. Is it OK to just fill gallon sized ziplocks and poke small holes in them and put those all into one large mylar with O2 absorbers? Or will those smaller mylars stack well in a bucket?

Re: How do you pack assorted super pails?
I'm packing using smaller sized mylar pouches - about a #10 can size bag - and packing them in 5-6 gallon buckets. I bought smaller 200cc O2 absorbers and desiccant packets for these pouches.
It's more work to use smaller pouches, but the benefit is that I can just grab what I need out the bucket without having to re-seal a big myar bag everytime I have to dig into it. It might take more buckets (takes up more space with smaller bags), but I'm getting them for a buck apiece (sometimes free) from local bakeries anyhow. Plus, smaller sized pouches make for better bartering, if the need arises. If you use smaller pouches, use a scale to round out a specific weight so you know exactly how much is in a pouch. Though it may take up more space, this method eliminates the need for a bucket-sized bag and is more convenient in the long run, IMO. |
